INDOCHINA CHAMPS MATCH REPORT 3: LAO VERSUS VIETNAM
27 Nov 2008, 09:28pm | Updated 27 Nov 2008, 10:07pm. Posted by MartyGame 3:Lao versus Vietnam
Quite simply this is the biggest rivalry in global sport. The game that stops a couple of nations. The third Saturday in November. The ledger stood at 1 Phants win, 2 losses before this game with the Swannies victorious in the first 2 games in Hanoi and Vientiane, and the Phants coming out on top in the Singapore Asian Championships. This game proved epic and produced some of the best football seen in Elephants history.
Both teams won their first two games so this served as a proxy grand final. If any extra spice and motivation was needed the Swannies were farewelling club stalwart and most excellent bloke Scotty Stacey, and the Phants were saying goodbye to their very own version of Evo Morales.
The first 10 minutes were even, good solid footy. Despite an aging body without hamstrings Hollywood Hassett provided the early spark along with Wil who continued to amaze all with his second, third, fourth, fifth, six and infinity efforts.
Then the moment the nation had been waiting for. A long kick from the wing bounced deep into the Phants forward line where Santisouk Sengdara club legend, gathered cleanly in between three Swans and turned towards goal before slamming through the first, and greatest ever goal by a Lao player. The defense minded Swannies had packed their backline to limit opportunities and Souk's gather, turn, and quick was quality fo...

INDOCHINA CHAMPS MATCH REPORT 2: LAO VERSUS CAMBODIA
27 Nov 2008, 09:22pm | Updated 27 Nov 2008, 09:48pm. Posted by MartyGame 2: Lao Vs. Cambodia
The Cambodian Kangaroos (as distinct from the Khmer Roos) looked a lot like the Fremantle Dockers in their away strip. Luckily they proved to be a much better, and far more charismatic side. With his donning of the Kangaroos Guernsey The Rooster - the international footy slut - played for his 21st country - a record unlikely to be beaten ever by anyone of sane mind.
The Elephants were poor in the first half and the Kangaroos impressive. Despite Sepo and the Giant Dan's ruck dominance the Phants were unable to get first use of the ball due to the freaky pace of the Roo in board shorts who is the quickest man in Asian footy. The Phants backs stood up as solid as two week old sticky rice and repelled repeated attacks from the man in the board shorts. Meanwhile through perseverance at the other end the Duck put through 2 goals for the Phants and at half time the boys from Vientiane held a slender lead. The coach, playing in his 211 game was not happy and let rip with some colorful language at half time suggesting that the Phants could potentially have a better dip in the second half. The Doc Say was shocked by the coach's language and responded with a couple of quick darting runs from half forward to the wing (hands down certainty for most improved player at the upcoming Elephants B & F at the National Cultural Centre - the biggest social night of the...

INDOCHINA CHAMPIONSHIPS MATCH REPORT ONE: LAO VS THAILAND
Victorious Captain Souk and Vice-Captain Sai return to Vientiane to a heroes welcome
November 22nd 2008 will long be remembered in the Lao PDR as the day of the Elephant. After only 371 days of competitive existence, the Lao Elephants won the Indochina Championships in Phnom Penh beating the Thailand Tigers, the Vietnam Swans, and the Cambodian Kangaroos on what was surely the most glorious day in the contemporary history of football in the PDR. Not since the halcyon days of pre-1975 domination by the Laotian Monarchs has a Lao side so completed dominated an international tournament.
The historic occasion saw the debut of the Cambodian Kangaroos and the first ever international games in the Cambodian capital.
The Elephants as ever were led by captain Santisouk Sengdara, and the trip saw the overseas debut of young vice-captain and heir to Souk's throne the Doctor Say.
The Elephants would like to thank their sponsors Argonaut Resources, Beer Lao, Travel Indochina, and Vientiane College for their generous support that has greatly helped in the clubs success over the past year.
Game 1: Lao Vs. Thailand
The first game of the day saw the Elephants up against reigning Indochina champion the Thailand Tigers. The Tigers are a quality unit and the ledger between the sides stood at 1 - 1 going into the match with the Thai side victorious in the corresponding fixture last year in Hanoi, and the Elephants recording their first ever win in the game against the tige...

Look Out Cambodia
14 Nov 2008, 09:50am | Updated 14 Nov 2008, 10:13am. Posted by HenryElephants from around the world breathe a collective sigh of relief as the President confirms he has bought his tickets. However rumors persist of a slightly tweaked hamstring. When interviewed by Massage (the) Phousie Pioneer News; he was asked how will the team fare and what will the tactics be if the President is not his mobile, dashing Andrew Obst self? President: "The team will play like Carlton in Rd 22; looking solely too the President to kick ALL goals as well as his magical 10, although I expect I will kick them all regardless" he quipped.
Further News: Elephants in Thailand, Vietnam and especially Cambodia have been observed showing high levels of stimulation and exhilaration about the imminent battle for the Kings of the Mekong. For all concerned an Elephants victory is expected; losses are feared, who would you be more afraid of Angry Elephants, Swans, Tiger Cubs or the Khmer kids? Simple Elephants to win.!!
Stay tuned for the starting line-up - much excitement as a few elephants are to debut including (no pressure) Newbie Chris set to debut in the middle changing with no-one.

ELEPHANTS WAKE FROM POST ASIAN CHAMPS SLUMBER TO SOUND OF PHNOM PENH SHOOTING RANGE.....
23 Oct 2008, 02:02pm | Updated 14 Nov 2008, 10:13am. Posted by MartyAfter a period of hybernation befitting a 5 tonne proboscidea, the Lao Elephants have finally woken up again with a view to November 22nd's massive Indochina Quad-Nations Classic in the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh. One party States Lao and Vietnam come up against the region's two burgeoning democracies Thailand and Cambodia who are believed to have called a truce for the weekend despite a clear desire to blow one another up over the Preah Vihear Temple dispute. Expect fireworks both on and off field. The Cambodian side, rumoured to be going by the moniker 'the Khmer Roos', or 'the Angkor What's', will be making their debut in the Quad Nations which builds on from last year's successful Tri-nations in Hanoi last November.

LAO ELEPHANTS WIN TWO GAMES AT ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
10 Sep 2008, 05:34pm | Updated 14 Sep 2008, 08:28am. Posted by MartyIt's true do not adjust the channel. The Lao Elephants won 2 games at the Asian Championships played last Saturday September 6th in Singapore.
Going into the Asian Championships with a population of a mere 5.6 million people, pitted against nearly half of humanity, the tournament debutants, the poster-children for the word(s) 'underdogs', the men from the country that not one Singaporian taxi driver had ever heard of - the Lao Elephants WON TWO GAMES of very good footy! Having never ever won a game before this tournament this feat should not be (and has not been) underestimated.
The Elephants were placed in Group B alongside the eventual champions the United Arab Emirates Heat, last years champions Hong Kong, one of the pre-tournament favourites the Thailand Tigers, and traditional rivals the Vietnam Swans who as recently as a month ago had inflicted the most recent of the four defeats experienced by the Elephants in their 17 month history.
With a squad of 25, captained by Santisouk Sengdara, the Phants were the only side to turn up without matching shirts, without matching bags, and without matching uniforms, and from the beginning it was obvious that this was much more serious stuff than you get in Dong Dok.
A fair bit of rain in the week leading up to the Champs meant that it was soggy underfoot at the Singapore Polo Club as the Elephants faced the UAE Heat n the firs...
